NBASE-T Alliance Sponsors Linley Tech Data Center Conference
The NBASE-T Alliance staged its first exhibit at a trade event this past month in Santa Clara. Alliance participants from Aquantia, Cavium, Cisco, and Freescale hosted a table during the networking portion of the recent Linley Tech Data Center Conference on February 25. The event provided an ideal forum for members of the alliance to meet with OEMs and service providers to discuss emerging data center architectures, and how NBASE-T technology can best be applied in their environments.
Although network speeds within data centers exceed that of what is being proposed by the new 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T data rates, the new speeds promulgated by the NBASE-T Alliance fit into the broader enterprise and residential ecosystem. Whereas these domains were once distinct, the borders are blurring because of new capabilities like network function virtualization (NFV).
NFV enables data centers to host enterprise and residential network functions provided there are sufficiently speedy links to companies’ and consumers’ wireless access points and home gateways. NBASE-T technology provides the added speed needed by these links, drawing on the signal-processing and error correction techniques that made 10GBASE-T possible, and adding features for robustness outside the controlled environment of the data center.
The alliance thanks The Linley Group for the opportunity to participate in their recent conference. For more information about the conference see http://bit.ly/18oL5XZ
